(The following is an excerpt from the Lion in Tweed Episode 5.)
Scott Henkel: I'm Scott Henkel, and I voice Mutton Red, play guitar, and sing.
Andreas Duus Pape: And I'm The Lion in Tweed. Scott and I are going to record an episode live on July 30, 5pm, at the Peacemaker's Stage in downtown Binghamton, next to RiverRead Books. We will tell the story of Mutton Red and the Lion's first meeting. Don't miss it.
Scott: I would like to say a few words about Peacemaker's Stage. On the day I heard the mayor dedicate the stage and trail, he said:
| ``The Peacemaker's Trail seeks to educate, inspire and unite,'' said Mayor Ryan. ``Peacemakers have a played a fundamental role in promoting social justice in our country and around the world, and they continue to do so today. Dr. King's example is second to none, and we're proud to honor him with a statue at the center of this trail, which also highlights the work of other peacemakers. We hope the Peacemaker's Trail makes Binghamton a beacon for peace and understanding, attracting citizens from across the Southern Tier and beyond.'' |
RUMOR HAS IT that this is the first use of Peacemaker's Stage since those words were spoken by our Mayor. Come see, then, the first use of this public stage for our messages of peace. Come listen to two Binghamton University professors and Binghamton residents---assistant professor of Economics Andreas Duus Pape (plays the Lion in Tweed) and assistant professor of English Scott Henkel (plays Mutton Red)---tell the story of how everyone's favorite Great Cat college prof the Lion and the great historical bum Mutton Red first met. We can reveal no details now, but the story will be told, as always, with word and song. And, like every Lion in Tweed event, it will be recorded and added to Binghamton's greatest narrative musical podcast: The Lion in Tweed.
Peacemaker's Stage is right on the Chenengo River where Court Street crosses it.
5pm on Saturday, July 30th. Invite your friends. I mean, if you want. It's up to you, of course. No pressure. But don't miss it. Really. Really? YES, REALLY. DON'T MISS IT.
